In the fall of 2000, YouthMAP and the Ark of Refuge had the
tremendous honor of acting as local sponsor in San Francisco
and Los Angeles for the Children of Uganda. The Children are
supported by the United Children's Charity Foundation , which
was established in 1995 to address Uganda's HIV/AIDS orphan
crisis by providing orphaned children with education, food,
shelter and medical care. The Foundation currently supports
850 children in three orphanages in Uganda, including financial
support to 200 children living with HIV-positive widowed mothers,
and resident care and education for 13 handicapped children.
UCCF also supports the education of Ugandan children abroad
with its U.S. Scholarship Program. In addition UCCF produces
an award-winning dance troupe called "Children of Uganda,"
featuring performers from UCCF orphanages that tour internationally
to raisefunds and increase awareness of the AIDS epidemic.
