Youth Space
is a city-wide youth-run recreation, entertainment, and entrepreneurial
center which is a collaborative effort of numerous youth organizations
under the auspices of Youth Making A Change at Coleman
Advocates for Youth and the San
Francisco Recreation and Park Department.
Currently Youth Space is under the fiscal sponsorship of
St. John's Educational Threshold and is funded through the
Department of Children Youth and their Families.
The groups in the Youth Space Coalition that have been involved
in developing the space include the SF Youth Commission, the Youth
LeadershipInstitute, SLUG, Columbia Park Boys and Girls Club,
Youth Speaks, HOMIES/RAP/Mission Youth Coalition, Youth Cultivate
2000, Sunset
Neighborhood Beacon Center, Rising Youth for Social Equity (RYSE),
TheThird Eye Movement, Youth Outlook (YO!), Inner City Youth,
and many others.
Youth Space is an innovative youth development project that aims
to give youth the opportunity to develop programs and small businesses
to meet the needs of their community.
Youth Space itself will be a center that will incubate and spin
off other youth-lead efforts. Each of the initial projects in
youth space is being entirely youth designed, run, and lead. There
will be space available for groups of youth with an idea to get
space, support, and resources to develop
new and innovative community institutions to meet the changing
needs of diverse youth communities over time.
Youth Space will be a center whose mission it is to build, nurture,
and link new youth institutions and communities.
